Introduction

So, where are we heading in this lesson?

We begin by looking at two people who work in a large telecommunications company and how their performance is influenced by various factors such as the situation, the person, the outcomes and the feedback they receive. In that context we’ll explore what can be done to support the high performance of different staff.

Then, we'll present some scenarios in which we will ask you to consider how you would respond to performance and development challenges. Our subject expert will share some thoughts and recommendations; see how these confirm or enhance your thinking.

We'll get you to reflect on what has helped you most to develop in your career. Have any people played an important part, if so, what did they do? What did you not experience that would have helped your development and what steps have you taken to control your own development? Remember to make notes in your interactive workbook. On this topic it will help to undertake the course on 'Passion for learning'.

We also encourage you to take part in the community forum which provides the collaborative space to share your thinking and ideas with others. In this lesson we’ll ask you post an example of a creative method for development which you have experienced, and which could be used alongside more formal learning and development approaches.
